Project Background
Wacky Jelly is a small home-based coffee jelly business started by my sister-in-law. When she first floated the idea, I knew I wanted to help bring it to life in a way that felt authentic and a little personal. This wasn’t just about creating a brand for another dessert—it was about celebrating her son, Wacky, who inspired the name. So this free project became a small but meaningful creative exercise in turning something deeply personal into something playful and shareable.
While the initial need was simple—a logo and cover photo for the business’s Facebook page—I also imagined the possibility that Wacky Jelly could grow into something more. That’s what led me to explore multiple logo variants, including playful neon and color-melt versions, as well as a more flexible signature-style mascot design.
Concept & Creative Direction
At the core of the identity is a mascot: a smiling, slightly mischievous jelly character inspired by Wacky himself. The design intentionally mimics the feel of gummy textures and round letterforms, but with visual cues that tie into the coffee jelly theme—from brown-and-cream color palettes to earthy background patterns.
The design process started with the coffee-themed variant—a brown-and-cream palette that directly reflected the dessert and grounded the brand visually. From there, I allowed myself to play: what if Wacky Jelly someday expanded beyond coffee into fruity or colorful jelly products? That curiosity led me to explore:
- Multicolored variants for a brighter, candy-like appeal
- Neon-style logo for playful pop-up events or nighttime visibility
- Minimal signature logo made up of just the smile and dots for ultra-simplified use
In the end, the coffee-themed variant remained the final and most-used version. The others were fun experiments—unused but intentional explorations that helped future-proof the brand.
Each version is distinct but connected by a consistent energy—fun, friendly, and just a bit wacky.
Execution & Applications
For this project, I delivered:
- A Facebook-ready cover photo
- A profile picture icon using the mascot
- Multiple full logo layouts (with/without mascot, color variants)
These assets helped establish a recognizable visual identity for Wacky Jelly online, with enough versatility to grow into future branding efforts if the business expands.
Final Reflections
It’s rare to be able to work on something that combines family, food, and fun—but that’s exactly what this project gave me. Helping shape Wacky Jelly’s identity felt like bottling joy into a logo.
Design-wise, it was also a helpful reminder that good branding doesn’t always start with a client brief. Sometimes it starts with a kid’s name, a bowl of coffee jelly, and a little creative momentum.
