This project features a digitized rendition of Scarlet Witch, based on the original line art by Chahine Ladjouze. Chahine is a professional comic book artist renowned for his dynamic penciling work, particularly on Aspen Comics’ Soulfire series. His expressive linework provided the foundation for this reinterpretation through vector inking and digital coloring.

To begin, I carefully traced the original artwork using the Pen tool in Adobe Illustrator. I focused on preserving the energy of each stroke while adding clarity and refinement. Once the inking was done, I layered flat colors and built up tone to guide the composition’s balance and mood. Throughout the process, I aimed to keep the spirit of the original while applying my own stylistic approach.

Exploring Scarlet Witch Vector Art Variations and Color Palettes

Once the base version was complete, I created several variations of this Scarlet Witch vector art. In these iterations, I flipped color palettes to play around with character references—some pulling from alternate costume designs, others inspired by specific comic arcs. Instead of simply changing the vibe, these shifts acted as subtle tributes to the rich visual history behind Scarlet Witch.

I enjoy this kind of experimentation. Each color variation lets me explore new storytelling angles and see how visual context affects character perception.

Side-by-Side Comparison

To highlight the transformation, I included a slider comparison between Chahine Ladjouze’s original Scarlet Witch line art and my fully inked and colored digital version. This visual juxtaposition helps illustrate how vector inking can retain traditional comic aesthetics while enhancing clarity, depth, and polish.

Whether used for a tribute, a reinterpretation, or an experiment, vector art remains one of my favorite ways to bring dynamic characters to life—especially when grounded in linework as expressive as this.

About Me

I’m JP B. Bantigue—a designer, digital illustrator, and longtime comic art enthusiast. Inks & Colors is where I return to the craft of inking and digital coloring, often working over existing linework to bring characters and scenes to life. Whether it’s a commission, a tribute, or an experimental study, I find joy in tracing lines with purpose and layering colors to build mood and texture.
