A Personal Project on Environmental Awareness
A Visual Play on Words for a Bigger Cause
This t-shirt design plays on the double meaning of the word fin—both as the French word for “the end” and as a shark’s fin, which has become a symbol of the cruel and unsustainable practice of shark finning. The message is simple yet impactful: fin means the end, not just of a meal, but of sharks themselves. Below the text, a bowl of shark fin soup is illustrated with floating fins, reinforcing the grim reality of this practice.
This project is part of my initiative to spread awareness about environmental issues through wearable art. By designing meaningful shirts, I aim to start conversations and encourage people to think about the impact of their choices on the planet.
The Process Behind the Artwork
- Concept & Execution: This design started as a minimalist visual pun that carries a serious message. I wanted to keep it simple yet effective in conveying the urgency of shark conservation.
- Illustration Technique: Designed digitally in Adobe Photoshop, focusing on clean vector graphics for easy screen printing.
- Color Variants: The design comes in different colorways to ensure versatility while keeping the message intact.
Why This Matters
Shark populations are rapidly declining due to overfishing, with millions of sharks killed each year for their fins. By spreading awareness through simple yet striking designs, we can help shift perspectives and encourage sustainable choices.
