A Fairy Tale Icon with a Modern Twist

What if Puss in Boots had a phase?

In this piece of Puss in Chucks concept art, I explored exactly that—a playful reimagining of the classic fairy tale hero if he had traded his swashbuckling days for band merch, worn-out Chucks, and an existential stare into the void.

Behind the Puss in Chucks Concept Art

This concept came from a blend of nostalgia, pop culture, and a dash of self-parody. Inspired by the height of emo-era aesthetics (and my own emotional roots in the SAD Star Soldiers initiative), I sketched a more contemplative Puss—one who might lean on a brick wall somewhere, hoodie up, tail low, asking questions like “What does it all mean?”

His signature star-shaped tail and Converse-style sneakers were among the early visual formulas I toyed with while building the SSS world.

Puss in Chucks

Sporting an emo hairdo, a pair of chucks and a star-shaped tail, one of my early formulas for the SAD Star Soldiers initiative.

From Doodle to Digital

Like many of my concepts, this started as a quick sketch on the margins of a notebook. It evolved digitally in Adobe Photoshop, where I refined the form while preserving the sketch-like textures. The original rendering included textured fur, but I later reworked the design into cleaner vector shapes for a more stylized finish.

The mix of soft shading and minimal detail helps strike a balance—just emo enough, but still unmistakably Puss.

More Than Just a Mood

Puss in Chucks is more than a quirky redesign. It’s a visual mashup of classic storytelling, personal nostalgia, and subcultural style. It asks a simple question: What if our childhood heroes went through the same phases we did?

And in that, there’s a little truth—and a lot of fun.

About Me

I’m JP B. Bantigue—a designer, storyteller, and creative who thrives in the space between imagination and form. I love building characters that live beyond the page—designing their faces, quirks, and histories while imagining the worlds they move through. Whether it’s a mythical creature, a product sketch, or a fully fleshed-out protagonist, the real joy is in giving shape to something that didn’t exist before—and letting it tell a story of its own.
