Fenix by Carlos Gomez is a digitized reinterpretation of the original line art by CarlosGomezArtist on DeviantArt. Carlos Gomez is a professional comic book artist whose work often highlights dynamic poses and expressive linework.

Digital Inks & Colors

For this piece, I used Photoshop to digitally ink and color the character. I began by vectoring out the original lines and shapes, giving them a more solid, flat look. This technique allows the figure to stand out with a sharper silhouette and defined flow. The black-and-white version was completed after the colored version, by simply converting the palette to create a monotone effect—emulating how it might appear on inked comic pages.

I explored two color variations here:

  • Phoenix Variation (Version 1) – with classic reds and greens
  • Dark Phoenix Variation (Version 2) – a richer, moodier version inspired by alternate arcs

About Me

I’m JP B. Bantigue—a designer, digital illustrator, and longtime comic art enthusiast. Inks & Colors is where I return to the craft of inking and digital coloring, often working over existing linework to bring characters and scenes to life. Whether it’s a commission, a tribute, or an experimental study, I find joy in tracing lines with purpose and layering colors to build mood and texture.
