Building a Platform to Support Innovation
During my time with Baxter IP, I had the opportunity to work on the FastCircle website—a digital ecosystem designed to support cross-functional innovation across intellectual property, design, commercialization, technology, and legal services. FastCircle brings together inventors, entrepreneurs, and experts into one collaborative platform. My role was to bring this vision to life through a fully custom WordPress theme, developed from scratch using PHP.
The website was designed as a single-page site—clean, responsive, and focused. It adapts beautifully across devices while maintaining a strong visual hierarchy, guiding users from discovery to engagement without feeling overwhelming.
Modular, SEO-Optimized, and Built for Clarity
I built the theme from the ground up using PHP to give us full control and ensure a modular structure. Each section of the site—services, process flow, news hub—was treated as a reusable component that could be maintained and extended with ease. This modular approach not only keeps the codebase efficient, but also helps with long-term scalability.
From the start, we also prioritized search engine optimization. The structure, metadata, image handling, and performance enhancements were all built with SEO best practices in mind, ensuring FastCircle could reach its intended audience effectively.
Communicating Complexity with Simplicity
Because FastCircle operates at the intersection of multiple domains, it was important to create a site that made these offerings feel accessible. I used a mix of visual metaphors (light bulbs for IP, sketches for design, code blocks for tech, legal imagery for services) to represent each domain clearly and intuitively.
Content was also broken down with concise headers, icons, explainer videos, and simple diagrams to guide users through what could easily be a complex journey.
Takeaways
This project was a balance of strategy and simplicity. The goal was not just to inform, but to invite participation in a growing ecosystem. Through clean design, modular PHP development, and mindful content structure, we created a site that feels as innovative and forward-thinking as the platform itself.
