This pixel art fan art is my personal interpretation of Ebil Machina, an enigmatic robotic entity within the Sad Star Soldiers universe that remains shrouded in mystery. The artwork started as a rough sketch, which I later refined into pixel art using Photoshop. Ebil Machina and the Sad Star Soldiers idea belong to Jeremiah Virgo.
The Enigmatic Machine in the Sunflower Patch
A lone, hulking figure emerged from the depths of the Sunflower Patch. Its golden armor glinted ominously under the dim light. A glowing eye, fixed with an unreadable intent, sent shivers through those who saw its arrival. No one knows where Ebil Machina came from. It simply wasn’t there before. Then, as suddenly as it appeared, it vanished without a trace.
Ebil Machina is an enigmatic robotic entity within the Sad Star Soldiers universe. Jeremiah Virgo created it, but its purpose remains unknown. Is it a friend or foe? This particular concept art is my own rendition of the character. I designed it in Photoshop, aiming to capture its mystery through a pixel-art-inspired aesthetic.
Concept and Design
Drawing from inspirations of classic mecha and retro fighting game aesthetics, I aimed to capture Ebil Machina’s formidable presence with a mix of mechanical intricacy and simplicity. The red scarf—a seemingly organic element amidst the rigid metal—adds a sense of personality, a subtle hint at a deeper, untold backstory.
The artwork follows a pixel-art-inspired approach while maintaining a high level of detail in its shading and forms. This was done in Adobe Photoshop, blending sharp outlines with a slightly rough, hand-crafted texture to give it that vintage sprite-based game feel.
Legacy of the Sad Star Soldiers
Ebil Machina is yet another thread in the expanding lore of Sad Star Soldiers, a world shaped by creative minds like Jeremiah Virgo and Lee Biscarra. As part of this shared universe, this artwork is both a tribute to that legacy and a visual exploration of an unexplored character. Whether Ebil Machina will take center stage in future narratives or remain a ghostly legend within the SSS world is a question only time will answer.
For now, it lingers in the Sunflower Patch, waiting.
