What does it really mean to be ‘normal’?
According to a dictionary, being normal means conforming to what is standard. But does being normal mean that you have to “go with the flow” or “fit in with the crowd”? Is it normal to sleep at work, just because some of your colleagues do? Is it normal to speak foul or say curses, just because your friends and family do? Is it normal to cheat in exams, just because most of your classmates do too?
Is it normal to break all the rules, just like most people? Does it mean it’s okay to throw your litter or spit on public places, just because most of the people you see on the streets do? Is that NORMAL?
Does being normal mean that you can throw your paper cups on streets during marathons, just because it’s standard: everybody else does it and the organizers will clean it up anyway afterward! I guess if it that’s what NORMAL really means.
But one’s actions shouldn’t just be based on what is NORMAL. Ask yourselves first, is it RIGHT?
