Introduction

3 Crows’ Footsteps is more than just an album cover. It’s a symbolic piece tied to 3 Crows, a fictional band led by Eerht and his friends. This artwork blends biblical references, personal reflections, and artistic inspiration, echoing the themes of faith, doubt, and destiny found in Heaven & Eerht, the story that gave birth to the band.

I designed this entirely using Photoshop brushes, layering textures to depict a shoreline where the sea meets the sand. This imagery is intentional—it represents a moment of passage, a meeting of certainty and uncertainty, much like the biblical events that inspired the album’s title.

The Meaning Behind 3 Crows’ Footsteps

The title references Matthew 26:34, Luke 22:34, and Mark 14:30, where Peter denies Jesus three times before the rooster crows. These passages embody betrayal, regret, and redemption, which are central to this piece. It also draws inspiration from Footprints in the Sand by Mary Stevenson. The footsteps in the artwork symbolize both presence and absence—the moments when faith feels tangible and when it seems distant.

Artistic Influence & Creation of 3 Crows’ Footsteps

I took inspiration from Switchfoot’s Nothing Is Sound, not just visually but thematically. The abstract, textured approach and high-contrast brush elements add layered depth to the piece. The ever-shifting sea and impermanent sand reinforce the idea of an ongoing journey—one that never truly stands still.

Subtly embedded within the composition are three crows. They symbolize warnings, fate, and reflection, mirroring the struggles of Eerht and his bandmates as they face their own challenges.

The Symbolism of the Shoreline in 3 Crows’ Footsteps

At its core, the shoreline is a space of transition—where the known meets the unknown. The footprints along the sand tell a story of choices made, paths taken, and people who have come and gone. The waves washing over them serve as a reminder of impermanence, reflecting how decisions fade, time moves forward, and unseen forces shape our lives.

This duality—certainty and doubt, faith and fear—defines 3 Crows’ Footsteps. The artwork mirrors the band’s journey: sometimes lost, sometimes found, but always moving forward.

Final Thoughts

3 Crows’ Footsteps isn’t just fictional band album art. It’s a visual and thematic extension of the story it belongs to. Inspired by Nothing Is Sound, rooted in biblical themes, and visually representing the ebb and flow of faith, it remains a striking and thought-provoking piece.
