Introduction

Some stories begin as quiet ideas—ones that linger in the background, waiting for the right time to be written. A Change of Heart is one of those stories.

First drafted as a passing thought in 2009, it stayed with me for over a decade. I’d revisit it occasionally, scribbling new scenes or adding fragments of dialogue—but the real story only took shape years later. It became more personal than I expected, not because it mirrors my life, but because it speaks to the kind of love and kindness we often overlook: the quiet kind.

This book is also my official entry to the Storyteller UK 2025 contest on Amazon Kindle.

What is A Change of Heart about?

Set in a high school in Pasig, A Change of Heart follows two students who couldn’t be more different. Eunice is quiet, observant, and often invisible. Wolfe is sharp-edged, distant, and constantly circling the edges of trouble. From the outside, they seem worlds apart.

But as the story unfolds—through diary entries, sketches, and glimpses into their small daily lives—we begin to see something deeper. Not a grand romance, not a typical drama, but a slow, quiet understanding between two people who have more in common than they realize.

The book is told mostly through Eunice’s diary, then later through Wolfe’s own reflections. It’s a story about being seen. About kindness without expectation. About what we leave behind when words aren’t enough, and how those words might still change someone’s life—even after we’re gone.

If you’ve ever held on to a memory, or wished you’d said more when you had the chance, this book might feel familiar.
