Defiance The Show

I’ve been watching Defiance The Show for a while now: it’s good but it’s just okay. It has the same feel as Terra Nova and Falling Skies, although I definitely like these two better.

When I first saw the trailer for Defiance, I actually thought it was cool. As I said, it kind of had a Falling Skies vibe to it, but even more with an expanded universe. I liked the idea that it is set in the near future, where extra-terrestrials and humans have co-existed. But when I saw the pilot episode, I had been disappointed entirely. My expectations for the show were not met, even still, I continued watching the following episodes.

Defiance The Game

As for the game, which I’ve only seen through the gameplay trailer, my first impression was that too bad that I’ve seen the Destiny game prior to seeing the Defiance gameplay video. I’ve instantly made comparisons to Destiny, mostly on the graphics, the gameplay, and the overall likability to play it.

My final rating

Defiance The Game was worse than just okay. I think that Defiance had just been unlucky that there was this new and upcoming MMOG called Destiny around the same time this was released. With that, I give this a 1 out of 5.

Defiance The Show could have been better, with the visual effects, the makeups and prosthetics for the actors, and the story. Though I had to understand, that since the show is a tie-in to the game, it needed to actually support the game and its plot. While the idea of the show was to support the game, this could have worked out perfectly as a standalone. With this, I give this a 3 out of 5.
