Vampirates by Justin Somper is a series of books about a set of twin children, Connor and Grace Tempest, who got separated at sea and are picked up by two very different ships. The term Vampirate refers to a vampire pirate living on one of the ships, the Nocturne.

Why I picked this up

As a fan of both a vampire and a pirate in fiction, I was intrigued by the story and was curious to find out more about it.

Why I kept reading this book

I’ll tell you a tale of the Vampirates; a tale as old as true… (Be honest, you read this line in your pirate-y voice, didn’t you?)

Although the pacing of the story is rather quick and oftentimes full of cliffhangers, and the plot being somewhat a little too predictable and at times disappointing, I still like the all of the twists that Justin Somper added to the story.

Why I will keep reading this book

Even though I think it needs a little more action and detail in the unraveling of events, it’s still quite exciting to a young-adult-at-heart like myself and makes me want to read the next books.
